Please feed the animals

Hi ladies!

The Survivor Well has run dry, and we need your juice! So far, we've talked about applying for residency, finances during residency, not yelling at your husband when he attempts to do the laundry, and setting up fences. What else? What's on your mind?

Please leave a comment on this post with your topic ideas. Or if you're tired of hearing our weary voices and want us to give it up, you can say that, too.

Thanks!
Jennifer

Define "end"? LOL! (my BFF will tell you there isn't ever an end, but her husband is in academics and that makes her very grouchy.)

Yes, Melisa - someday you really will have closets. Walk-in ones even. ;-)

Do you ever recover from having to spend years [sometimes upwards of a decade] away from ANY family for their career? Does the resentment dissipate with time?

I'm sure all you survivors could give a lot of good advice about moving- especially for those going through it all right now. ie: finding out where you're going, when to start looking for houses/neighborhoods, is it better to live as close to the hospital as possible, rent vs buy, moving expenses, when is the best time to move, aquainting yourself with a new area, etc. I'm sure there are many different perspectives- but all the better. :)

I am new to the site and so glad I found you all! My name is Adriana and my husband of 6 years is a PGY3in OB/GYN. We moved just over 2 years ago from KS to PA. We have two small children aged 4 and 2 and we are pregnant with our third. It has been quite the journey through undergrad, med school, and residency. Love the site!

My first thought was moving advice too!

Also, we might delve into the topic of the importance of medical spouse organizations to us? This has been a wonderful thing for me and I realize not everyone has the luxery of having one at their husband's school, but ours is/was wonderful.

Paying for applying to residency. Things to look for in a residency program. Maybe a discussion on "what I wish I knew then...the 1st year of medical school."

Hi, my boyfriend is in his last year of internal medicine residency and is planning to work for 2 years as a hospitalist and then go to fellowship for oncology. Any adnice about what schedules are like during someone's first job or fellowship would be helpful.

I would LOVE to hear a "Survivor Saturday" about surviving long distance marriage! My husband is finishing his intern year next week and then moving away for the rest of residency, but I'm staying here for 2-3 years while I finish up my Ph.D. Most long-distance advice is things like "It's not so bad, you can see each other on weekends" but of course we both work weekends (and weekdays).. and don't have much time to talk on the phone/video chat, so I'd love to hear how other doctor's wives have survived the situation!
