Match Success?!

Congrats to all who matched yesterday!
I am the wife of an MSIII so we have 364 more days to go (not that I am counting!) and was curious if any significant other of a successful 2010 ortho match had any advice?!

And my general curiosity....where is everyone going?!

Thinking of you all!

DH matched at his #1 for ortho!

Tips:
*Choose aways wisely. DH did two away rotations, and had he done one more, it would have been the spot he ranked #1. Luckily he matched there anyway, but we would have had more confidence about if if he had rotated there.
*Apply broadly - you never know where you'll find those diamonds in the rough.
*Don't ignore community programs. DH realized on the interview trail that he was really impressed by the community programs because of the amount of OR time they get.
*Be strategic in scheduling interviews. Orthogate.org is your best friend and worst enemy. Use it to find out interview dates so that you can know which dates you want should you get an interview offer.
*Know your #1 a week or due before the ROL due date so that you can contact them to tell them such. It also helps if the chairman from your home institution's residency program can call on your behalf.
*Keep an open mind on the interview trail.

Finally, good luck and have fun! It's all pretty tedious stuff, but you don't get the year back. You may as well have fun with the process. :)

My husband said that their program was "well filled". He was very happy with the applicants that matched.
