Poll

The new poll is up! Any comments on last week's poll? I haven't cut my hair in 16 months and I need one bad!

I usually pay $40-60 when I get a haircut. But that only ends up being about once a year (sometimes less). And amazingly enough, my hair's not that bad! Because I don't get it done very often, I like it to be done well when I do. Maybe that doesn't make sense to some, but it works for me!

During our first year of marriage, I used to make J cut my hair (risky, but we had just purchased a car with our student loans, meaning we were on a VERY tight budget). J's such a perfectionist, though, that it would take hours (we'd do it on a Sunday because he doesn't study then) and I finally decided it was worth paying when one side was two inches shorter than the other. Now I wait for coupons to come out and go to Great Clips or Cost Cutters. One day when we can afford it I'll go to a salon and get it done.

When I was in high school and even college, when I didn't have to pay for myself, I used to use my babysitting money and spend at least $120 on cut and color, but I haven't done that in years. (I was so particular about my hair and only trusted one person to do it.) I'm growing my hair for Locks of Love so I've stopped coloring my hair and every other month I'll have either my mom or boyfriend's sister trim my dead ends. Looking back, $120 was ridiculous, but it sure looked good! haha

I've been lucky in the past 8 years to always have a friend in our alliance who happens to do hair. Now, my current friend just had a baby and lives an hour away. I'll have to wait a while before getting hair cuts from her. Personally, I am not looking forward to getting Christian's hair cut by a stranger this week. So scared, I'm almost tempted to try my hand at the shears myself.

I go to a beauty school - a real salon is NOT in the budget but I have grey hair so I NEED to have it colored (I'm only 26 - and the grey hairs are coarse and hard to style/manage).
I can get my hair colored for $20-$22! I also can get an hour massage for $25 (an occassional treat I allow myself).

I highly recommend looking into seeing if you have a beauty school near you!

Great idea, Marissa Nicole - there's an awesome beauty school in Tulsa (Clary Sage) that has 1 hour massages for $30 and they are running a half price special through the end of the year - I've gone twice! What a treat! I usually pay about $15 for a haircut and get it done once a year... I trim it myself in between. I hate to spend money! LOL

Oooo! Thanks for the idea, Marissa! I keep divorcing my stylists when I stumble upon a cheaper one. If I didn't have the grey hair it wouldn't be such an ordeal. Ends up in a bun everyday anyway thanks to having 2 kids and working in pediatrics!

I pay $40-60 and try to make my cuts last 6 months each.

What's with all the, "I *have* to color because I have greys?" I've been going grey since 13, and I still haven't colored mine. I kind of like the way it looks! If you can pull it off, I TOTALLY advocate going au naturale.
