Pittsburgh Help

Anyone have any info on Pittsburgh PA? My husband got an interview for fellowship there and I have been researching the city with not much luck in the way of where to look for places to live in a good school district with minimal commute and rent for less than $1200 for 2-3 bedrooms. We want to be in a nice area hopefully with other kids and families. Prefer a suburbia-type feel...but can adjust to city living (I think...I've never lived in the middle of a huge city). Oh, and the kids will be 3 and 6 when we are there. (so, 1st grade)

Thanks!!

My bf will be a fellow there this upcoming year, and has heard that Shadyside is a nice area to live in - has shopping, restaurants, etc. and close to the hospital. I'm not sure about the schools there though, sorry!

I'm not sure if this helps but it's worth a shot. :)

Long ago, my sister and I used Apartment Finder (Apartmentfinder.com) to find a place for us when we lived by our university. They were able to take our preferences and weed out all of the bad places that we probably would have looked at on our own. Quite honestly, they were AWESOME. :) I don't believe that they charge a fee from you--they collect one from the place that you end up renting from.

Another suggestion would be to ask for the phone number of a doctor or perhaps his wife that will be working with your husband and they will be able to guide you in the right direction. I'm very sure that they would be more than happy to help! :)

Okay, one more suggestion. When Jason and i moved to Minnesota for four months, I used google maps to picture what was in the area. I put in the address of the hospital that he was going to be working at as the central location...and learned what grocery stores, restaurants, etc. were in the area in a 20 mile radius. Google has a cool feature when you can look up all of those things in categories... Half the battle of being able to gauge an area is by what is surrounding it. :)

I hope the suggestions help! :) You can email me if you like. :) Good luck!

Myriah, thanks for the info on Shadyside. I saw apartments in that area, but was thrown by the name "Shadyside"...it doesn't really make you think of a good side of town. I wondered though.

I am sure if the neighborhood is good, that schools might be too. I will look into it. Thanks!

Doc's Girl: I had not thought of Apartment.com...I'll try it out. I wonder if they have a school district search? If they do, I will let you all know.
