So far the 2nd semester of this year (his second year) is a little bit easier than last time last year. But, we know that things are going to get a little more stressful the closer he gets to taking his step 1.

But, I hear third year is easier? What have y'all experienced?

I can assure you third year is 'easier' than second year - - it's a different kind of stress. Second year was a very tough year on my husband and I - - his schedule was insane, he was constantly at the library and was miserable. Now he is in the hospital on rotations and SO happy to be doing instead of listening to lecture. Once Step One is behind you, things will start looking up! Plus you will start to feel like you really are halfway there :)

And just like 3rd year is easier than 2nd...4th year is a BREEZE :) After taking the second part of Boards it really is a 'walk in the park!' There's A LOT more free time!!

I am in love with third year and cannot wait for 4th. He is just so much happier actually seeing patients!

Give and take for us... he is much, much happier in radiology than he was during his intern year, but we lived together during his intern year, and now we're 5 hours apart. Not sure whether he would rank his happiness in medicine or his happiness in marriage as a priority, though I might guess marriage since he specifically went into radiology over orthopedic surgery to have more time to spend at home with family!

Good news: 5 more months of residency

Bad news? 3 of those 5 months he's out of town.

Best news? I've done this...I can do it again.
