Medical TV shows

So, after tonight's Grey's and Private Practice, it got me wondering....How many of you also watch these? I should also include Scrubs in there as well. JM and I used to watch Scrubs re-runs every night during his last year of med school. (We still do, just not as much.) And I also have to admit that I love how JM sits on the side while watching Grey's and Private Practice trying to pretend he's not watching, but then he makes those doctor comments like tonight's was "that was the fastest ekg ever done" and "she wouldn't really need an iv bag..." (I think he secretly likes to watch too...) :)

So, anyway, do you watch any of these? Love them or hate them? Do you think it has anything to do with being in the medical field? Any other thoughts or opinions?

As for me, I think I'm just a huge tv junkie and I would watch anyway. Personally, I love all the sappiness and the drama and Scrubs was just so funny!

omg, I love Scrubs!! In preparation for its final season premiere on ABC, I tried to re-watch the entire series up to that point. It's fun to watch the really early episodes after reading House of God because there's so much shared terminology. My parents are big sitcom people, so I've watched it from the beginning (wayyy before meeting R).
Coincidentally, R had never seen Scrubs before coming to med school, but he likes it.

We're also both big fans of House, though we haven't watched much lately. I was really excited about Kal Penn joining the cast, but now he's left to work in the white house.

As for Grey's and Private Practice... I used to be a Grey's snob, and I still sort of am. I mean, it's just so bad. But it draws you in! Plus, I lived in my sorority penthouse and liked to hang out in the common room where it was on so much of the time. I much prefer Private Practice because of it's cast (I love when Taye Diggs' character checked out Idina Menzel's cameo character last night, lol). However, my cousin (MSIV) tells me that Private Practice is the worst in terms of not being anywhere close to medically accurate. Meh. That's why I'm not a doctor! ;)

Oh! And R also sits to the side and totally makes those types of comments when Grey's or Private Practice is on. I don't think he likes them. I think watching House is like a game, though. He'll sit to the side and guess the diagnosis... but he'll also comment about how unrealistic their tactics are (like performing every procedure or going to the patient's house to look for toxins, etc.).

I loved ER before I met DH, so I dont think that my love of Greys and Scrubs is connected to being related to someone in the medical field.

He likes those shows too. He does inject 'you wouldnt give ____' or 'what is a plastic surgeon doing in the ER?!' But I can handle that, and usually find humor in the show proclaiming that they have doctors on staff to make the show 'real' and then doing stupid things. Like sending a plastic surgeon to the ER.

I am so glad to know I am not the only one with a husband who makes comments during medical shows! The only time it really bugs me is when he says something like "that wouldn't happen..." at the height of a dramatic moment.

We recently watched the finale of ER together (he was MS1 during the 2nd season), and he remembered having the same kind of Carter moment - having to go outside and catch his breath b/c the intensity was too much - during his first ER rotation. So for as much liberties as these shows take, I do think they can be realistic - to some point. He doesn't remember the call rooms being quite so...um, "active"! ;-)

We don't watch Grey's Anatomy or Private Practice. We've watched ER together for a long time. He makes comments every once in awhile about things not really happening that way. He can't watch House because it's way too unrealistic. We both love Scrubs, just because it's hilarious. The only thing he's ever commented about it is the x-ray in the opening credits is backwards.

We watch them all (but House)...including my husband. He usually sees them before I do...and I usually catch up on them every once in a while on the computer. He probably likes Scrubs the best (we've watched it from when it first aired) and then Greys and then Private Practice. I like them all!

We LOVE Scrubs. In fact, we think this season has been one of the best yet. I really love the quirky way that the stories are plotted....they alway give a little twist! Larua, we love the episode where "Kim" switches the flim saying, "That's been bothering me!"

I started watching ER in the beginning. It was one of the first shows that I really remember having a "cliffhanger" season finale.

We used to watch Grey's when it was good. Now that it's jumped the shark I can't get my husband to watch it at all. Private Practice is ok...but not great.

House, on the other hand, we try to watch together. We both really enjoy it!

Scrubs is the only show that we watch...

...but I like to watch medical shows on Discovery Channel that show all of these weird disorders/diseases. Jason claims not to like them but he's always sitting there facinated (and doesn't fall asleep--which is the main sign that he likes them). :-P

We really love Scrubs, it's hilarious, but we really haven't had any time lately to catch it. We used to watch Grey's Anatomy, but I couldn't take anymore of Meredith, I can't stand that girl. I love Addison and McDreamy, but even that couldn't make me continue to watch those shows. We all have enough drama in our lives, without being stressed out by other people's crap! hehe I am really up to date with what is happening on Curious George, Sitting Sucks, and Veggie Tales though!! That Bob the Tomato rocks!!! hehehe

Well, since we have no TV signal anymore and are too broke for cable, we don't watch TV. LOL! Back when we could live off loans, we had cable and I loved the Discovery Channel medical stuff. I can't handle ER. I don't do blood. The difference is ER involves people crying and in pain and all gory, while Discovery has the people sedated and medicated. :o)

I don't watch Grey's or Private Practice. I detest all of the sleeping around. Annoys the heck out of me. I got miffed in LOST when Jack kissed his patient's daughter. What the heck, Jack!

I rent the DVDs of House and Scrubs. I love them both to pieces and so does Brad. I actually like seeing if he can diagnose the problem before House, but I guess the way the symptoms are shown make that kinda of random.

Brad mentioned the Scrubs film too. I think it is so hilarious that they would do that on purpose because apparently it would be too obvious to be an accident. I love Scrubs. Some day when I have money, I think I should just buy them all!

My husband loves "Scrubs", probably because it started around the time he was about to start residency. We never really watched much of the other shows, but he always said he liked "Scrubs" the best because the thought it was the most realistic in terms of medical terminology and situations (though the x-ray at the end of the credits always bothered him; we loved it when one of the characters turned it around before one episode began!). I think that's just ironic, since it's usually the silliest of medical shows on TV. I'll occasionally watch a "House" episode, and he's never been opposed to watching it with me, though I don't think he likes the fact that the main doctors on the show can do everything from CTs to neurosurgery! We watched it also because of Kal Penn, and I'm sad he's gone.

We Tivo house so Mark and I can watch it together, and we would watch ER together too. He definitely makes the that's so fake comments. He refuses to be in the same room while Grey's or Private Practice is on, so I save those for when he's out.
