Graduation Gift Ideas?

My DH is graduating in a few short weeks and I have no idea what to get him! The excitement & stress of match-relocating-my job search-home search resulted in thoughts of graduation being put on the backburner.

Any suggestions out there?

I took him on a surpise trip to Dinsey World, but started planning in January. I figured it would be the last vacation we got for awhile - that was almost 6 years ago and I was right. A nice watch is always a fun idea, too. Good luck and congrats!!!

I got my DH a nice new stethoscope for graduation and had it engraved with his name...which is also nice so it doesn't get "accidentally" picked up by someone else at the hospital/clinic.

One of the other ideas I saw was a nice Dr's bag so that he could carry his stuff back and forth between home/clinic/hospital/on call. They're in a constant state of movement it seems.

Congrats!

I got my husband an xbox 360 so that he could keep in touch with our med school friends, and take out some frustration in the games. He seems to really enjoy it; when he has time. :)
Also considered a beer of the month club membership for a year since my DH loves beer...hope you find something that will make both of you happy. Good luck with your move.

He loved it and once we get shelves hanging up in our living room, it will sit on the shelf!

I got my husband the golf club set up :) clubs, bag, shoes etc. I surprised him on morning and told him we were going shopping- he was so excited! He loves golfing but never had his own clubs.

Downside to this idea- he's been golfing EVERYDAY since then! :)

When Michael graduated, I went to a local art gallery and bought a really cool painting for him. It was not only a nice addition to our house, it's a reminder of those years in this special place during training.

I got my husband a name plate. Not every profession offers a desk, you can still display it in his home office.

I'm getting my husb an embroidered long coat. A lot of residency programs will give their new interns long white coats (don't know if they're embroidered or not), but from what I hear, they go through them quickly. Having an extra, nice, embroidered one is always a good thing. I've been thinking about doing this since his first year, and it's still what's been stuck in my head ever since.

I am still clueless about what to get hubby!

A keepsake, for sure. Probably personalized.

He loves watches so I may just spring for one...

I got my husband (then boyfriend) a leather messenger bag for call nights. I filled it with all his favorite things that I thought he'd need to survive call - diet mountain dew, books, pens, food and candy he likes, etc. He loves it. I hope this helps!

I got mine a new bicycle. He was the only one in the family without a bike. Now he can keep up with the rest of us!

I've been looking all over for the "perfect" gift for my DrH, something that he will enjoy and treasure, and remind him of all his accomplishments and give him something to reflect on. In the end, I settled on getting him a textbook. It is the first edition of the textbook they have come to rely on for his specialty. It shows the origins of his specialty and gives him some insight into where the field has evolved into. And how he has contributed, as he is an author in the most current version to be released this fall. I think he'll really enjoy reading the thoughts of the founding fathers of interventional cardiology. Thank goodness for the Library of Congress and Amazon.com.

Any suggestions if you can't spend much money? Things are pretty strapped over here but, now that I'm reading about all your fab gifts I'm starting to think I need to think of something. Maybe I can make him a med school memories scrapbook, yeah, I like that. (He actually wants an IPAD and I think is a great gift bc they can use it on the wards...that would be my suggestion if you have the cash. And if you can spring for two then you can use the face time for some of those long shifts).

When my husband graduated medical school I got him a personalized portfolio and matching prescription pad holder - he loved it! Just about anything with their name + M.D. will make their day. Afterall, they have worked really hard to get this far!

I got my DH The Great Physician picture in a large frame for his graduation 4 years ago. I believe he thinks it's one of the best gifts he's every gotten. It hangs in our office at home and eventually will hang in his office of practice.

What about Match Day? Did you get gifts for that?

'Match Monday' falls on St. Patrick's Day, so I'm thinking of sending my guy a bottle of Irish whiskey and some cigars to enjoy with his Med School buddies once they get their email notifications. I currently live a few hours away, and can't start celebrating with him until the 21st, so I figure it's a good way keep him relaxed and excited until we can open that envelope together on Friday. Another idea is to buy a gift certificate or set up an appointment at a barber shop so he's looking good for the big day. I found a really authentic shop in my boyfriend's neighborhood: hot towels, shears, shoe shine etc.

What book if you don't mind sharing? Mine is going into interventional cards as well!
