Poll - Do you have a Kindle/Nook/etc?

I don't have one and I'm curious what people think. I just finished a book yesterday (The Scarlet Pimpernel - fantabulous btw...) and I just love holding a book. But, I also hate losing pages when a bookmark falls out, etc.

I just can't wrap my head around an electronic book as being a good thing. Thoughts?

My husband has a Kindle and he loves it. I read one book on it, and it was okay. The not-losing-your-place thing was good... And I love that you can look up a word just by clicking on it in the text.

But I have not felt any urge to read another book on the Kindle. I just prefer real books.

It's nice to have for traveling, though! Light and compact.

I don't have an actual Kindle or Nook, but I use the Ebook readers on my Iphone/PCs and it is great! I like being able to pick it up on any computer I am on and have the bookmark saved.

Kindle now offers ebook lending, so you can loan a book you have to 1 friend. That makes it nice. I trade books with a friend of mine and we are able to read books more often.

I do love having a good book to hold, but my kids pull the bookmarks out so often that I am constantly having to re-find my pages.

I just got a Kindle for Christmas and I do really love it. I have only read 3 books on it thus far but I love saving $ per book (usually around 9.99 per book rather than full price, esp for hardcover books). I also enjoy actually holding a book in my hand but thus far, it has not bothered me to have the Kindle in hand instead! I have heard great things about the Nook, especially now that they have Nook Color, but I don't know anyone who has one in order to compare the two.

I had the first gen kindle and Dr. J just gave me a new one for chanukah. (He in turn got my old one) I adore my Kindle because 1) it's instant gratification (dangerous but fun) 2) It's usually cheaper than hardcovers or even paperback sometimes 3) No more losing books, they're all backed up in my account online 4)When we travel it's sooo much easier than packing 3-4 books (I'm a prolific reader) 5)Did I mention instant gratification???

:-)

I love real books too and there are some that I have to own in "real" book form but for most books the Kindle is perfect.

I LOVE holding a book and flipping the pages. I LOVE libraries and book stores and sipping hot cocoa with a good book. I am resisting this technology!

However, with my man going to be flying a lot for outrotations and interviews, we've talked a lot about how convenient it would be to have one for him to take on planes and hotels and such. So... the idea of getting one is being tossed around!

Don't have one and don't want one! I'm totally old school and love the entire sensory experience of a book, new or old! With bookstores and libraries closing though, I have a feeling that we will have have to go digital at some point . . . but I will not budge until I absolutely have to. And, in the meantime, I will continue to buy too many books that I don't have enough time to read!!!

So I have the free Kindle App on my phone. (Nooks and Kindles are for post-residency)

With my free app, I go to the "store" and click on "free classics." I have read, I don't even know how many-tons, of books for FREE on my phone.

My other frugal resident wife trick is going on Amazon and listing e-books from cheapest to most expensive and exclude everything but the 4 and 5 star selections. What comes up first is all the best rated FREE books.

I have never NEVER (yet) paid for a book.

I love a great book in the hand as much as anyone else, BUT I tend to forget the book I'm reading at home, but can read now while I'm waiting in line, etc...

I also love that my phone back lights so I can read while I'm supposed to be sleeping. The Kindle does not have the back light feature.

I was totally against it, until my Dad gave my Mom a Kindle for Christmas. I thought I would hate it, but I read a chapter and thought the look was pretty authentic. And I've seen it advertised for only 135. May be showing up in our home in the near future.
