We live in an expensive city and have four kids. I spent $800 last month and friends told me they learned to coupon and spend only $300. They have two kids. I think we spent that much when we had $300 but we lived in a much cheaper city. I've never been able to coupon well and felt like I spent more when I used coupons. Are there any coupon gurus out there that have some advice?

@ Liz-
Coupons schmoupons I say!
Okay, so I spend a fortune too on groceries. Perhaps I could save using coupons, but it is sooooo much work and driving to multiple stores, ugg!
I'm not up for it.

I just go to Walmart and Sam's once a month. Overall it seems to be cheapest to do it that way and is the biggest time saver.

To medical student families - Food Stamps!!! Get em while you can before you are paying for everyone else to have them!

It's me and my husband and I spend between $500 and $600 a month. Sometimes people can't believe this, but we live in NY and he needs to eat a lot for his activity level. And I'm with you guys, coupons make me spend more because I buy things I wouldn't usually get.

We just joined Costco in an attempt to spend a little less. I got the membership mostly for cereal, gatorade, snacks and fish...but the produce is turning out to be pretty great too!

We spend about $300 a month. It's just the two of us (and a dog) and he eats most of his meals at the hospital, which helps.

I am a couponer :) It's definitely worth it, and not too difficult. I follow some amazing blogs (Southern Savers and Money Saving Mom) and they really spell things out and how to do it easily. I spend between $100-$200 per month on food.

I'm not a couponor but I do try to buy mostly produce and cook from scratch most of the time. That and I make big soups, stews and frittata's that will keep for awhile and can be reheated easily.

Costco is for cereal, snack bars and anything else Dr. J needs to eat/stuff in his pockets to eat in between patients.

We spend about $300 to $400 each month on food. Some months we're able to come under that if we really make an effort. We shop at Costco and bring out lunches to work each day. We only purchase meals at work about once a week. We live in the DC area so getting the cost down can be challenging. I'm open to ideas!!!
