Things they say

Anyone have funny stories about the crazy thing their DrH says? Sometimes the crazy part is that the conversation seems so normal. LOL!

I had this conversation with Brad last week. Last year, when the leeches got lost, we were at a Resident's BBQ, talking about where you can get medicinal leeches. The residents that were on call got paged while we were all looking it up. Ahhhh, fun times!

My husband sent me an email from Afghanistan Saturday morning that said, "Someone must have received easy-mac in a care package recently, cuz I saw one medic eating some out of an emesis basin yesterday (I hope that's not too disturbing for you, but we do have a lot of extras laying around--unused, of course). So if you feel the need to send me some, feel free...when I smelled it cooking, I got really nostalgic and felt like I needed some RIGHT NOW! Don't worry, I didn't attack the poor unsuspecting child, but I did eye the food stuff with great intensity...” OccDoc calls all the young medics ‘children’ I hope that's not too offensive (I'm sure they call OccDoc something worse).

All I can say is at least they're using dinnerware, even if it is eating Easy Mac out of emesis basins.

The other day my frustrated-with-the-kids husband said to me, "Why don't they just do what I say?? It's so nice at the hospital where all of my commands and requests are met immediately!"
I loved it, and mostly because he recognized and acknowledged that it is not the same, and hopefully will never expect to be met with the same reaction at home!

We were at a BBQ talking to another Dr about the leeches, and I learned something new. Apparently, you can stitch the leech onto clothes or something so they don't go and disappear. "Leech leashes". Nice....

My all time favorite

Beep, beep, beep

DrH: Cardiology, you paged?
Nurse: Doctor, your patient is having a nightmare.
DrH: Is he having any chest pain?
Nurse: No, no complaints of chest pain.
DrH: Is he stable otherwise?
Nurse: Yes
DrH: Give him a pillow to hug.

My husband, fast asleep & dead tired, used to raise his arms and do operating motions with his hands in the first few years of his surgical residency. Retract, sew, suction, cauderize, retract, sew, etc, etc. Other times, if you asked him if he wanted to wake up and have a late dinner since he had not eaten yet, he would respond clinically, "Did you check the creatinine? He needs a CT."
