The Medical Marriage Book Review

I am so excited that so many of you are interested in reading along and having a discussion. My guess is that even those of you without the time to read this book are interested in hearing about it also.

So that everyone has enough time to get the book and get some reading done we will have our first summary/discussion a week from today on Monday July 26th. So by then read the introduction and Chapter 1 Beating Stress Together and Chapter 2 What Stresses Medical Marriages?. I will write a brief summary and then we will discuss in comments...sound good?

I''m not a blogger, nor am I a wife. Just a long distance girlfriend to a PGY1 urology resident. I'm finding it really hard to be so far away (he is in NY, I'm in TN) and not being able to comfort him at the end of a long day or when he is post call. I have ordered the book and while I'm not quite in a medical marriage, i look forward to reading about what may come and learning more from you ladies about what life is like as the other silent side of medicine.

We can push it back a week. That way everyone has a week to get the book and a week to read. I think that puts our first post on Monday August 2nd. Sound good?

Stacie,

They can't get it through inter-library exchange? Also have your husband talk to the school/residency program as a lot of programs have a copy of this book in their program library as it is published by the American Medical Association. If they don't have it sometimes they will buy the book to have if someone requests it. Most programs have money to go specifically towards the library. Just a thought and it doesn't hurt to ask!

If your spouse works for a hospital, have him ask the hospital to consider buying a few copies to put in the doctor's lounge for circulation. Admin wants to keep doctors happy and home life pleasant. They will likely be excited to meet a need so cheaply.
